Groundhog Day

It’s Groundhogs day.  And apparently he saw his shadow so we will have six more weeks of winter. This is my question, when have we ever NOT had six more weeks of winter?!?   Is this silly or just me?  Maybe I don’t understand the holiday?  Can anyone help me here?

I was watching an interview with Kurt Warner, the quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals. Apparently he’s had a rocky career, one plagued with injuries and some bouts of sitting the bench. I believe they were debating whether or not he was “Hall of Fame” material. As they interviewed him he said something along the lines of this:

“I’ve always wanted to play my best. I want anyone who has ever played with me to be able to say “I was a better player and person because I worked along side of Kurt Warner.” That’s all.”

If you delve more into Kurt’s story, you know that he attributes any success that he has ever had to God and the grace that God has bestowed upon him to preserver through whatever adversity was thrown his way.

It made me think, is that what I want? Is that true of me? Can people say “I am a better person, just from being around ______”? Do I want it to be? That’s a high standard to hold yourself to, isn’t it?

Advent Conspiracy?

Thoughts on this anyone?  What would Christmas morning look like?  And what about those people who enjoy giving presents as well as presence?   Can/Should we do one or the other?  Can/Should we do both?

World Aids Day…

If you haven’t seen the red MSN homepage or Yahoo’s homepage then you may have missed that today is World Aids Day.  Google even has a link on their homepage for more information on this.  Visit these sites, see how you can help!

Also, Brentwood Baptist Church has a great partnership with Living Hope Community Center; and there is our local ministry blood:watermission that can also give you more details on how you can personally help stop the global pandemic.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!

As it was mentioned last night, 2008 has been an eventful year.  There have been a lot of national ups and downs.  I’m sure you can say the same about your life in 2008.  It’s easy to forget we have a lot to be thankful for when our circumstances stare us in the face each day.  The challenge is to remember.  Remember the only thing that matters is Christ and Him glorified.  He is the rock in which we hide.  His love for us is greater than that of anyone we know.  He is for us. He is Healer and Redeemer, Strength and Peace.  This Thanksgiving, turn your eyes upon Jesus, then the circumstances do grow strangely dim.

The site maps the state-by-state prevalence of flu

Sometimes I feel like I’m way behind on knowing the cool “in” thing.  Like I know twitter exists; but couldn’t tell you how it works exactly.  Anyway, I digress.  Google is stepping it up and helping us track the flu in the US of A.  I don’t know if you know about this already…but I thought it was pretty neat…

Child-witches’ of Nigeria seek refuge

Mary is a pretty five-year-old girl with big brown eyes and a father who kicked her out onto the streets in one of the most dangerous parts of the world. Her crime: the local priest had denounced her as a witch and blamed her “evil powers” for causing her mother’s death….

“Everyone needs compassion, a love that’s never failing…let mercy fall on these children…”
