Daily gas.

gas-prices.JPG

As the price of gas continues to increase, it is hard for our monthly budgets to keep up. If you are like me, you plan out your monthly spending, so you will know when you need to stop spending your cash. Well, it’s hard to be accurate about how much money we can spend on date or movie money when we don’t know if we are going to spend $60 or $100 to fill up our gas tanks that week. So what are we to do since we can’t stop the price of gas going up? We have to be like the Israelites and enjoy the daily manna God gives us. That doesn’t mean we spend all our money the first day we get it. It means we trust that God is still going to provide for us, even with the gas prices rising.

Death of a Joker.

new06a.jpg

Heath Ledger is currently one of the most talked about actors. Not because he had an “accidental over-dose” roughly six months ago, but because critics are saying that his portrayal of the Joker in the new Batman flick deserves an oscar! For me, I am glad that Heath is said to have done so well in this, his last film (especially since I loved the film A Knight’s Tale) but I am sad that like so many young people today decide to do, he checked out before he could enjoy his accomplishment. I guess I’m not that surprised though. Many of us have so many demands placed on our life each day that we begin to think that death can be easier than life. We know we are sick of all the stress and Chaos, but we don’t know what to do about it. I can’t speak for Heath, because I didn’t know him, but I can speak for many of us today. When we don’t Run to Jesus with our problems, we become the Joker - unable to escape a life of hiding behind all the makeup.  Jesus can free us from all the voices in our head and the chaos of our life. It is only when we are free and alive, will we be able to enjoy our oscar like accomplishments.

Gates Gone!

billg_bio.jpg

At the top of his game, Bill Gates steps down from his day-to-day activities at Microsoft in front of about 830 co-workers in Redmond, Washington. When asked why now, he mainly stated that he has “got to get out of the way, and let that new thing step in there.” That new thing is the opportunity for better ideas in the “search” market. You know, what Google and Yahoo does so well… However, Bill will remain as the part-time Chairmon of Microsoft and handle some projects he is assigned. Don’t worry, they did give him a going away present. You guessed it, it was a scrapbook from his time there. I guess money isn’t the perfect gift for a billionaire, it’s love shown with pictures of many memories. As we go through the Summer of Love this 2008, remember that at the end of the day, the perfect gift isn’t what money can buy the person, its more about the care you can show the person.

Growth

dubaitower.jpg

In the year 2010 you can fly to Dubai and visit the World’s first rotating skycraper where literally every room will have a changing view. The first two buildings will be built in Dubai and Russia, and a third is being planned for New York City. Best part of all, is that despite the fact that all three buildings will rise higher than the Empire State Building, you won’t get motion sick. The building’s rotations “will be slow enough that no one will notice.” That seems a little hard to believe that I wouldn’t notice my condo moving around in the sky. However, I’m not surprised that such a thing as this is about to exist. The world works hard to continue pushing itself to evolve, grow, and develop into something better. It makes me wonder where some of us would be spiritually if we began to work just as hard on our spiritual growth as the world does on it’s industry growth. As cool as the development of a rotating building sounds, its even cooler when someone is able to tell of this kind of spiritual development in their own life. Start reading the Bible, and see what great things the Lord can do in you.

Identity crisis…

large-house.jpg

I was reading an article lately about mega-mansions in Los Angeles. The basis of the article stated that although the economy is dropping, the mega rich are continuing to build these giant homes. One builder aluded in the article that he knew 20 residences of more than 20,000 plus square feet that are in the works for L.A. county. May sound crazy, but you can buy the above 20,000 square foot home in Williamson County for $6.9 million. The bottom line is that we are still looking to find our identities in things of the world.  Why is this? Because culture teaches us to. How do we stop? We find our identity in Christ, and we do that by getting to know Him.
